DAOU was founded in 2007 when brothers Georges and Daniel Daou discovered what would become known as DAOU Mountain–an untapped world–class terroir in the Adelaida District of Paso Robles. DAOU is today regarded as one of California’s benchmark wineries, renowned for its dynamic portfolio of wines and its mastery of Cabernet Sauvignon.
DAOU Mountain rises to an elevation of 2,200 feet along steeply pitched slopes composed of limestone and calcareous clay. The soil profile is comparable to Saint–Émilion while the climate mirrors the heart of Napa Valley. The phenolics produced here are among the highest in the world.
The DAOU guest experience spans two companion destinations: DAOU Mountain in the Adelaida District and DAOU Ocean on the nearby Cambria coastline. In both places, guests can taste limited estate selections, enjoy curated wine–and–food pairings and relax amid an abundance of natural beauty.
Daniel Daou believes that innovation is the best way to capture the intention of the land. Combining extreme attention to detail in the vineyard with advancements in phenolic management, he produces terroir–driven wines with depth, nuance and imagination.
DAOU’s prowess with Cabernet Sauvignon was hailed by Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate: “This is the finest 100% Cabernet Sauvignon I have tasted from Paso Robles and it will stand toe–to–toe with the best coming out of Napa.”
DAOU was one of just five wineries nominated for “American Winery of The Year” as part of Wine Enthusiast’s Wine Star Awards. This distinction is given to producers who “are noted for their groundbreaking vision coupled with the courage to take risks and the skill to succeed.”
